On 29 January, a Career Expo and Stationery Drive organised by Shincheonji Volunteers was held at Klapmuts High School to support learners from the school’s first-ever Grade 12 class as they prepare for post-school pathways. The initiative addressed the need for career guidance and academic resources within the Klapmuts community.
Klapmuts High School recently introduced its first Grade 12 cohort, marking a significant development for the school and the surrounding area. With learners approaching the completion of their secondary education, the event provided practical information on career planning, tertiary education options, and skills development.
The principal of the high school, Donovan Mackier, expressed gratitude to the Shincheonji Volunteers for their support.
“As you prepare to step into your final year, we are proud to announce that you will be our school’s very first Grade 12 class. This is a special moment in our school’s history, and you are the pioneers who will shape it. We believe in your potential and the example you will set for all the grades that follow. Step into this milestone with confidence and a commitment to excellence,” the school posted on Facebook.
Learners received guidance on setting goals and understanding available post-school opportunities. Stationery packs were distributed to assist with academic preparation and included essential learning materials such as pens, pencils, exercise books, rulers, erasers, mathematical sets, files, and folders.
Sivuyile Mbatha from Stellenbosch University shared that this was a deeply meaningful event and that he was grateful to be part of such a historic moment in Klapmuts. He expressed his excitement for future collaborations and working together to support learners, and praised how Shincheonji Volunteers organised this event and brought institutions together so effectively.
The event aimed to improve access to career information and learning resources, supporting learners as they make decisions about their next steps after school. Community volunteers joined together with Shincheonji Volunteers, assisted in the coordination and delivery of the programme.
