Art is in the Air 

A celebration of artistic allegiance.

For most, the second week of February is typically entrenched in the love is in the air fervour of Valentine’s Day. However, the sights of the culturally inclined denizens of the Mother City are set on something else entirely: art.

Here are a few artsy events that will be taking place throughout the week. Try something new and delve into the world of art. Who knows, you may just discover a hidden talent or passion. 

Investec Cape Town Art Fair

At the heart of Africa’s cultural celebration stands the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, now in its 11th year. Attracting a crowd of approximately 25,000, the fair transforms the Cape Town International Convention Centre into a hub of artistry. Over 100 exhibitors from around the globe converge to showcase their works under this year’s theme – “Unbound.”

According to Peta Dixon, head of Sponsorships at Investec, art lovers can look forward to, “experiencing how the multitude of contemporary artists manifest this liberating, all-encompassing theme in their work.”

International Public Art Festival

The International Public Art Festival (IPAF) will be a five-day affair taking place from 14 – 18 February. It is a unique experience for art lovers who wish to celebrate local and international public artists.

The theme for this year’s festival focuses on communal action and creative alliance or Co-Act/Collab for short and will showcase artwork in and around the CBD with the main hub being at Company Gardens.
