GP makes a mark for contribution to SA’s GDP

Gauteng was named the 7th largest contributor to the African economy. On the list were Nigeria in first place, Egypt in second and South Africa in third.

The province contributes 35% to South Africa’s gross domestic profit (GDP). That adds up to $100 billion out of the $285.8 billion the country makes in a month.

At the Africa Investment Forum premier David Makhura said the province was a front-runner in securing revenue for the country and manufacturing in sub-Saharan Africa.

The listing placed Gauteng ahead of countries such as Tanzania and Ethiopia. Gauteng came in just below Sudan as the only province on the list.
