Cape Town Children’s Home Fun Day 2025 – A Celebration of Play, Resilience & Empowerment

The sound of laughter, music, and excited chatter filled Rygersdal Sports Grounds on Saturday, 1 February 2025, as over 600 children from care facilities across Cape Town came together for the first-ever Cape Town Children’s Home Fun Day. Organised by Sisanda FunDaytion in partnership with LED Lighting, the City of Cape Town, and various local businesses, the event created a day of joy, connection, and empowerment for vulnerable children.

The fun-filled programme featured interactive play stations run by Sisanda’s Youth Play Ambassadors, volunteers, and community leaders. Activities included face painting, soccer, Zumba sessions with Claremont Zumba NPC, and a mesmerising magic show by the School of Magic.

Adding to the excitement, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and MasterChef SA winner and LED Lighting CEO Shawn Paul Godfrey joined the celebrations, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in uplifting children and fostering a sense of belonging.

Beyond the fun, the event emphasised mental health awareness, resilience, and social cohesion, reinforcing the power of play in empowering young minds.

The children watched the magic show in amazement.

Karen Farred, CEO of Girls and Boys Town, praised the initiative: “It was an incredible experience for our youth, filled with joy and laughter. The thoughtful planning and engaging activities created a wonderful atmosphere for all.”

Lorenza Ganci, Manager of Home of Hope CYCC, shared her gratitude: “This event meant so much to each of the children as they felt welcome and accepted. We are truly grateful to have been part of it.”

The Cape Town Children’s Home Fun Day 2025 was a shining example of how community-driven efforts can bring hope and happiness to children, ensuring they feel seen, valued, and empowered for a brighter future.
