A valid reason behind Stage 4 loadshedding?

Eskom continued to struggle with capacity shortages leading to Stage 4 loadshedding throughout the nation over the weekend, but it seems there might have been a sufficient reason behind it.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said the damage caused by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique to a transmission line between Mozambique and South African further escalated the SA’s already dire electricity supply.

He assured South Africans that the matter would be resolved with two or three days on Sunday after he had deployed much needed aid to Beira in the form of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

The power plant announced that the Stage 4 outages could be expected from 09:00 to 23:00 on Monday. In a statement they asked citizens to not be alarmed as this loadshedding process was a ‘highly controlled’ one which aims to protect the system while ensuring that South Africa would not be faced with a nationwide blackout.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience during this difficult period,” Eskom said.
