Proudly South African Positivity – the #ImStaying movement

While South Africa faces a difficult time as a country, citizens on Facebook have chosen to share proudly South African positivity rather than complaints and negativity via the #ImStaying movement; a Facebook group that has grown to over 670 000 followers in a matter of just a few weeks.

Launched on the 7thof September, the #ImStaying Facebook group was created to share good thoughts, good words, and good deeds among South Africans.

#ImStaying is dedicated to the South African women and men of all races, cultures, religions and creeds who remain loyal to South Africa. This group is to honour all those who still believe that we as a nation can turn things around. We focus on the people, beauty and positivity in South Africa and all the good vibes. To all those who choose to stay and work as one, to save this beautiful country we call home! This group belongs to all willing to make a positive difference! #ImStaying is our hashtag.

From family portraits to graduation pictures, roaming hippos and quirky ‘South Africanisms’, the page is swarming with positive reasons why citizens are choosing to stay in South African rather than move abroad.

The #ImStaying movement has gone beyond the Facebook page with people coming together and holding #ImStaying gatherings.

We had our 1st #ImStaying get together yesterday in Parys! What a blessing to meet positive people! Next time our group will be bigger!”
