Pretoria hairstylist André Green has made international news by setting a new Guinness World Record for the most haircuts completed under water in one hour. Green achieved this remarkable milestone on Saturday 29 November 2025, when he successfully delivered thirty one full haircuts beneath the surface of a pool, breaking the previous record of twenty seven that was set in London in two thousand and seven.
The attempt took place in Pretoria, where volunteer divers waited in line underwater, ready to receive rapid trims. Each participant entered the pool with scuba gear and positioned themselves in front of Green, who worked with focus and speed despite the challenges that come with cutting hair in an environment where movement, visibility and tool control are far more difficult. Before attempting the record, Green trained with a professional diving team to prepare for the unique demands of the underwater environment.
The atmosphere around the pool was filled with excitement as spectators watched both above and below the surface. Reports confirmed that Green even injured his finger during the first attempt, but he kept going and maintained the strong pace required to secure the record. His determination paid off as the final count reached thirty-one haircuts within sixty minutes.
The event also had a charitable purpose. Green used the record attempt to raise funds for Abraham Kriel Bambanani Children’s Home, which supports vulnerable children in South Africa. His success brought attention to the cause and inspired many supporters.
