In a fast-paced world, small acts of kindness remind us of our shared humanity. This was evident in Windhoek, Namibia, as Shincheonji Volunteers hosted a three-day free book-covering initiative, uniting communities ahead of the back-to-school season.
From January 16th to 18th, 2025, the initiative took place across three accessible locations: Zoo Park, UN Plaza, and Okapale. Residents gathered to have school books neatly wrapped, sharing smiles and encouragement in an atmosphere of unity.
The idea was born in November 2024 when a Shincheonji Volunteer saw a parent struggling to prepare school supplies. From this moment grew a movement of love and service.
“We saw the difficulty some parents were facing and wanted to step in, not just to help financially, but to show that no one is alone in this journey,” said Himeezembi Hambera, one of the volunteers. “That’s what this initiative is about: creating a community where we support one another.”
Parents arrived with stacks of books, and volunteers worked tirelessly. For participants like teacher Festus Jackson, who joined after seeing a WhatsApp status, the event was about more than school supplies.
“Being here gives me a sense of purpose,” Festus shared. “It’s about more than covering books; it’s about showing love and care to people who need it.”
The initiative embodied inclusivity, bringing gratitude and connection to participants. As parents expressed relief and joy, the volunteers reflected on the bonds they built.
“When we come together, we show that our community is strong,” Himeezembi added. “We’re building bonds, sharing love, and creating memories that remind us why we care for one another.”
This heartwarming initiative highlights the power of coming together to create lasting change through small acts of kindness.
