Residents and community leaders gathered at the Klapmuts Multipurpose Hall on Saturday, 7 March 2026, to witness a historic milestone: the official unveiling of a new town signboard that reflects the area’s evolving identity and shared heritage.
The ceremony, held on 7 March 2026, marked the culmination of a three-year collaborative journey between local residents and the Shincheonji (New Heaven New Earth) Church of Jesus. Located between Paarl and Stellenbosch, the town has seen a significant social shift, with the new signage serving as a physical marker of this local transformation.
A partnership rooted in community development
The unveiling follows a sustained series of grassroots initiatives aimed at social upliftment. Over the last three years, the community has spearheaded several critical projects including:
- Community Welfare: Targeted volunteer services and relief outreach programmes.
- Youth Support: Initiatives providing alternatives to gang involvement and substance abuse.
- Leadership Training: Pastoral workshops focused on fostering local unity and service.
Apostle Junette Engelbrecht, leader of the Church of Christ, praised the consistency of the New Heaven New Earth Church, noting that their presence has offered a vital lifeline for the town’s youth. “It is very important for a church to understand the heart of the community and to support it,” she said.

Voices of the community: A 60-year perspective
For long-term residents like Daniel Jacobs, who has lived in Klapmuts for six decades, the new identity represents more than just a name change: it is a “spiritual and social homecoming.”
“Klapmuts is my heart,” Jacobs shared during the ceremony. “New Heaven New Earth Church came to unite us. If the vision is to bring unity, then I will stand behind it. It is enriching to realise that I am also part of this spiritual journey.”

‘A town of opportunity’: The official declaration
The event reached its climax with the unveiling led by Ward Councillor, Alderman JC Anthony. Addressing the crowd with visible emotion, Anthony highlighted the town’s transformation into a hub of resilience and hope.
“I declare that Klapmuts is a new town. A Shincheonji town,” said Alderman Anthony. “A town of hope, a town of opportunity, and a town that will embrace you forever.”
The signboard now stands as a permanent landmark, symbolising the shared commitment of residents to a unified and strengthened Klapmuts.
