Music has the power to heal what is divided.
This September, Cape Town will host the United 4 Humanity Concert — a headline event of WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) South Africa 2025, staged in support of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation. The concert will take place on 26 September 2025 at St George’s Cathedral, bringing together world-renowned artists, immersive soundscapes, and Archbishop Tutu’s enduring message of peace, justice, and humanity.
Programme highlights include:
• The Stellenbosch University Choir (ranked the world’s best choral ensemble)
• Acclaimed international artists from Italy, Spain, Belgium, Austria, and the USA
• A ground-breaking 360° VR and binaural 3D sound experience carrying Archbishop Tutu’s voice and vision into the future, “Archbishop Tutu always reminded us that music and the arts are not luxuries — they are expressions of Ubuntu, of our shared humanity,” says Janet Jobson, CEO of the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation. “This concert is a living tribute to his legacy, reminding us that joy and justice belong together.”
More than a Concert: Music for Impact
Proceeds from the United 4 Humanity Concert will go directly to supporting the Foundation’s work, ensuring that the Tutus’ moral courage continues to shine, not as memory, but as action. Funds raised will fuel:
• Learning from Legacy: equipping school learners with tools to think critically and act with principle
• Truth to Power Exhibition: preserving Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Desmond Tutu, and Mama Leah Tutus’ legacy and inspiring new generations to confront injustice
• Courageous Conversations: creating inclusive spaces where dialogue sparks healing and collective solutions, “Buying a ticket isn’t just buying an experience,” added Jobson. “It’s choosing to invest in the future — in young leaders, in truth-telling, and in courageous community building. That is the essence of Be the Light.”
