A key factor in the event’s success was the collaboration and support from various organisations and volunteers.

The Western Cape Library contributed by promoting mental well-being and encouraging participants to incorporate reading and lifelong learning as part of a balanced lifestyle. Meanwhile, the organisation, Western Cape on Wellness (WoW) championed holistic health, reinforcing the importance of adopting healthy habits for both body and mind. Their presence further inspired attendees to commit to healthier living.

Speaking at the event, Minister Ricardo Mackenzie, emphasised the government’s commitment to keeping people healthy and active to prevent negative health outcomes. “One of our priorities as the Western Cape government is to keep people healthy and active to prevent negative health outcomes. This Big Walk is one of many initiatives that we support. We want more people to be more active so they can be healthier,” the Minister shared.

He also noted the importance of volunteerism, saying, “It’s lovely to see more people volunteering. We need more volunteers, and a special thank you to the Shincheonji Volunteers for showing their support as well.”

The Western Cape Big Walk 2024 was not just a celebration of fitness but a reflection of the power of community collaboration. The joint effort from local organisations, volunteers, and participants alike highlighted the strength of unity in promoting health, fitness, and a sense of purpose across the Western Cape.
