Cape Town’s traffic service technology has received an upgrade. The city’s speed trap cameras will now be able to identify unlicensed vehicles and have the owners brought to book.
JP Smith of the mayoral committee said the N2 and M5 will be some of the highways where motorists with unlicensed cars will be caught on camera and issued with fines via post.
The approval of the directorate of public prosecutions had to be sought first as this technology will eliminate interaction between the officer and offender.
Smith assured that fined motorists would only be penalised once every two months no matter how many times they are caught on camera after their first offence.
