To the Tea at Ka Pa Tee

The cold front passing over Cape Town was making good on its threat to drench us in heavy rainfall when we spilled into Ka Pa Tee. Tucked away right in the heart of the city, it not only offered a convenient escape from the forces of Mother Nature, but also good tea, much needed warmth and the perfect backdrop for EA Daily.

The neutral tones, splashes of dark blues and the refreshing greenery made the space homely and cosy, but the ‘cool’ element couldn’t be denied. Being a tea enthusiast in a city steeped in coffee culture can sometimes force one to conform to the majority’s pattern, so finding spots like Ka Pa Tee are to be celebrated.

Co-founder and tea lover, Bruno Rabaca, welcomed us and our desire to shoot our daily segment gladly and made our day by offering us a cup of tea. Our eyes lit up when we spotted the wall lined with a wide variety of organic teas from all over the world. Our head reporter’s eyes gleamed even brighter when she spotted the vegan, gluten-free baked goods.

In keeping with the mellow feel of the establishment, we sat with Bruno and talked about the weather.

Head down to Ka Pa Tee on Church Street. Open from Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 16:30, and Saturday 09:00 – 14:00.
