The year 2021 was riddled with bad news – an encore of the Coronavirus pandemic, Afghanistan war games with the Taliban, economic crises in multiple countries and many more stories that cast a shadow of a truly forgettable year. But there were also plenty of good-news stories and silver linings going on around the globe that we can look back at to brighten up the memories of 2021.
One of the most heartwarming and encouraging moments of yesteryear was the Senegalese professor, who held his student’s baby during the lesson which was a bold and encouraging message to all young mothers to never give up on their studies amidst all the challenges they may face.
Professor Labaly Touré who lectures at a Senegalese university, ignited the hearts of many as a picture of himself teaching while holding the child of one of his students, went viral on social media.
The professor said he took the infant so that the mother could focus on the lesson. He encouraged young mothers to persevere through the challenges of motherhood and keep up with all their classwork.
“What solutions can we offer to young women who come to university with their babies? These young mothers are in a difficult situation and it highlights a real issue in Senegal. Nurseries and nannies are expensive and aren’t options for a lot of people,” said Touré.
