Pick n Pay pulled an elaborate prank on South Africans on Monday morning when they announced a new in-app function that would enable users to taste and smell food through their devices.
They took April Fools to another level by even publishing press release in which they said the “TasteTech” technology had been in development for two years. They also said the function would only be available for cell phones that were two years or less.
PnP promoted the new technology via tweets and video advertisements featuring employees smelling their phones.
Today, we’re bringing you the future of shopping. Our new TasteTech technology uses your phone’s feedback to generate in-app tasting – an African first! ? Try it out now on the Pick n Pay app ✨ pic.twitter.com/yhKMcwJGVk
