CELEBRATE VALENTINE’S DAY WITH FOUR PAWS

This Valentine’s Day, global animal welfare organisation FOUR PAWS is encouraging South Africans to celebrate love in a meaningful way by symbolically adopting a rescued big cat. The initiative supports the lifelong care of lions and other animals rescued from abuse, exploitation, and inappropriate captivity.

Fiona Miles, Director of FOUR PAWS South Africa, says the campaign offers an alternative to traditional Valentine’s gifts. “Valentine’s Day is about love, and what better way to show it than by helping animals who have endured so much,” she says. “Every symbolic adoption contributes to food, medical care and sanctuary for these remarkable animals, creating an impact that lasts far beyond a single day.”

Valentine’s gifting options include symbolic big cat adoptions, which come with a personalised certificate and updates from LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in the Free State, donations made in a loved one’s name, and eco-friendly merchandise supporting animal welfare initiatives. Many of the big cats cared for by FOUR PAWS were rescued from zoos, circuses, or private ownership and now live in safety and dignity at accredited sanctuaries.

By choosing a symbolic adoption, supporters help fund long-term care while giving a gift rooted in compassion, sustainability, and ubuntu.
